With the Covid-19 outbreak, would you rather stay home and risk going crazy about getting infected or go out and go on with your daily activities?
Before we jump into conclusion, let’s look into What do we know about the Wuhan Coronavirus?
- “The Wuhan coronavirus — part of a family of viruses that are common among animals and can cause fever as well as respiratory symptoms when transmitted to humans” – CNN
- The symptoms: Fever, coughs, fever and breathing difficulties
- How is the virus transmitted? The virus is usually transmitted through droplets during sneezing or coughing.
- How to prevent being infected? Health authorities and scientists say the standard precautions against the viral Covid 19 as recommended by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are to:
- Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing/ got in contact with people showing the above symptom.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.
- Put on a surgical mask or N95 mask if you are experiencing the noCovid-19 symptoms
- Is the outbreak a pandemic and should we panic?
No. A pandemic, in WHO terms, is “the worldwide spread of a disease”. The spread of the virus outside China is worrying but not an unexpected development. Generally, the coronavirus appears to be hitting older people hardest, with few cases in children.- The GuardianMarc Lipsitch, a professor of epidemiology at Harvard says the noCovid-19 might be seasonal. Research studies hypothesised that the spread of viruses would decrease in warmer seasons as it is heat-resistant and will be killed at a temperature of 26-27 degrees. A higher vitamin D levels will also result in better immune responses, higher absolute humidity in which it will impair the transmission of flu-like viruses. Dr Dana Elliott Srither, Doctor & Co-founder of Rxemedium.io (Telemedicine) also states that the water will negate the effects of the virus.
