Equipping Educators with Essential Swimming Skills for Student Safety
From November 11th to 15th, 2024, TAD Sports Lab, in collaboration with Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang, successfully conducted a 5-day Basic Swimming Course for Special Education Teachers (Kursus Asas Renang Guru Pendidikan Khas Tahun 2024-2025). Hosted at Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre, the course welcomed over 25 passionate educators, providing them with crucial water survival and swimming skills essential for both personal safety and student well-being.
As educators, ensuring personal safety is the first step in protecting students. Schools often organize outdoor activities such as camping, kayaking, hiking, and swimming to encourage students to explore nature and develop teamwork skills. However, when it comes to water-based activities, educators must be equipped with fundamental swimming survival skills to confidently guide and safeguard their students.
A Comprehensive Learning Experience
The course was designed to balance theoretical knowledge with practical application. Through classroom-based theoretical sessions and hands-on practice in the swimming pool, participants gained valuable insights into water safety and survival techniques.

A Milestone in Educator Training
We celebrate and congratulate all the educators who completed this intensive course. They have gained personal water confidence and acquired life-saving skills that will empower them to create safer environments for their students.
This initiative was made possible with the support of WAHOO Swim School, which provided professional swim coaches, and Setia SPICE Aquatic Centre, which offered world-class facilities, including its Multipurpose Room for classroom sessions and its 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool for practical training.
By investing in educator training, we take a step forward in ensuring that every student—regardless of their abilities—can safely experience the joys and benefits of water activities. Let’s continue to equip our educators with the knowledge and skills they need to make learning safe and impactful!
